When Does Breast Milk Stop?

Whenever you are willing to extend breastfeeding your baby as much as possible because of all the benefits breastfeeding offers, or maybe the opposite you are really done doing so and you are secretly willing to stop, you might be wondering when does breast milk stop?

Weaning From Breastfeeding

Usually, breast milk will only stop production when the baby is weaned. This will be up to the parent as to when they want to stop their child from breastfeeding. Many people do it around the 12-month mark, with some people stopping breastfeeding at six months or whenever the baby is on solid foods or breastfeeding for much longer than that.

To promote normal health for babies, it is a good idea to go ahead and feed for at least the first 12 months. Typically, a baby cannot swallow well until they are this age, and giving them adequate nutrition via breastmilk will help to ensure that they get all the required nutrients. If a baby is weaned before their first birthday, they will need to be placed on an infant formula until they reach at least 12 months of age.

Introduce Solid Foods

In order to help your baby to transition better to the weaning process and get all the required nutrients, you should start introducing gradually one by one solid food. Introducing one food at a time is recommended in order to observe if any allergic reaction will present.
